Shop, Dine, and Celebrate on Third Street
Geneva is a historic river town on the banks of the Fox River, about 40 miles west of downtown Chicago and the county seat of Kane County. With its Victorian storefronts, scenic riverfront and lively calendar of festivals, Geneva is one of the most charming destinations in the Fox Valley. Homes range from beautifully preserved 19th-century houses in the historic district to established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions.
Geneva's Third Street shopping district is the town's signature attraction, lined with boutiques, galleries, antique shops and restaurants housed in historic buildings. Much of downtown is part of a National Register historic district, giving Geneva a character that's hard to find elsewhere in the suburbs.
The Fox River is at the center of outdoor life. The Fox River Trail runs along both banks for biking and walking, and Fabyan Forest Preserve features a restored Dutch windmill and a tranquil Japanese garden. Island Park and the riverfront parks offer space for picnics, kayaking and fishing.
Geneva is famous for its community celebrations, including Swedish Days, one of the longest-running festivals in the state, as well as Festival of the Vine in the fall and the Christmas Walk in December. Commuters can ride the Metra Union Pacific West line from Geneva's downtown station directly into Ogilvie Transportation Center, and Route 38 and Randall Road provide easy connections across the Fox Valley.
With its walkable downtown, riverfront beauty and strong sense of tradition, Geneva offers a distinctive small-city lifestyle with all the amenities of the western suburbs.
