The Pride of the Fox
St. Charles is a vibrant river city about 40 miles west of downtown Chicago, straddling the Fox River just north of Geneva. Known as the "Pride of the Fox," St. Charles combines a historic downtown, beautiful riverfront parks and a busy entertainment scene. Homes range from historic houses near downtown to spacious subdivisions, golf course communities and new construction on both sides of the river.
Downtown St. Charles is anchored by two landmarks: the historic Hotel Baker, a 1928 riverfront hotel, and the Arcada Theatre, a 1926 venue that hosts concerts and comedy shows throughout the year. Riverside restaurants, wine bars and shops line First Street and Main Street, and the downtown riverwalk makes it easy to enjoy the water.
Recreation is everywhere. Pottawatomie Park offers a pool, golf course and seasonal paddlewheel riverboat cruises on the Fox River. The Fox River Trail connects St. Charles to neighboring river towns, and the St. Charles Park District is consistently recognized among the best in the nation. The Kane County Fairgrounds, home to the Kane County Fair and popular flea markets, is also located in town.
St. Charles hosts some of the area's favorite events, including Scarecrow Fest each October and the Pride of the Fox RiverFest in summer. Residents enjoy quick access to Randall Road shopping, Route 64 and Route 38, with Metra service available at the nearby Geneva station.
With its riverfront charm, lively downtown and abundant recreation, St. Charles offers a distinctive lifestyle on the western edge of the Chicago suburbs.
